JOB TITLE:                                         Child Care Provider (22.5 hours per week)

POSITION STATUS:                         Regular, Part Time

EXEMPT STATUS:                             Non-exempt

PAY SCALE GRADE:                          7-8-9-10-11 ($29.14 – $42.78)

REPORTS TO:                                   Program Specialist

The Child Care Provider plays a crucial role in the development and well-being of the children while ensuring their safety, engaging them in educational activities, and supporting their daily routines.

Kawerak, Inc. is a non-profit organization that relies on federal agency and grant funding primarily to fund positions. This position is funded by agency or grant funding.  This means that this position, as with all positions at Kawerak, is subject to availability of funding each year to continue to fund the position. 

BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that children assigned to care are always supervised both indoors and outdoors. Treat children with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Collaborate with parents to meet the child’s needs. Treat child and family information confidentially.
  • Assist with planning and implementing a daily program of childcare activities that meet the developmental needs of individual children; with concern for their interests, challenges, special talents and individual personality and learning styles.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards diapering, toilet learning and special needs of children.
  • Support the behavior of children with positive guidance and set clear and consistent limits appropriate to their stage of development.
  • Assist in the planning and preparing of the childcare environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining the ordered arrangement and cleanliness of the childcare room. Perform general housekeeping tasks.
  • Follow center procedures for health and safety of children in care, including but not limited to procedures for diapering and toileting; procedures for meals and snack times; procedures for responding to emergencies; procedures related to suspected child abuse and neglect; and procedures for handling children who are ill.
  • Use appropriate guidance and conflict resolution techniques consistent with the developmental needs of each child.
  • Conduct daily checks of the indoor and outdoor environment to provide for the health and safety of children in care.
  • Participate in staff meetings and meetings with other professionals or parents as required.
  • Attend recommended training programs.
  • Maintain a current CPR and First Aid Certificate and Alaska Food Worker Card.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be at least 16 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Be responsible, friendly, energetic and reliable.
  • Experience working with children and families preferred.
  • Current First Aid and Infant/Child (Pediatric) CPR certification. If not current, must be willing to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire.
  • Current State of Alaska Food Worker’s Card. If not, must be willing to obtain one within 2 weeks of hire.
  • Residents of the community given preference.
  • This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act AS 47.05.310-47.05.390, 7 AAC 10.900-10.990, and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 USC 3201-3211 (ICPA).    A background check clearance is required, including fingerprints, and the employee’s name will be submitted to the Background Check Unit of the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and entered into their central registry.  Barrier Crimes Act and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position
